This season’s fieldwork involved interviewing fishermen from fishing villages throughout the island and participating in fishing in both the traditional and modern fishing vessels. Data was collected on the fishing practices, vessels and perceptions of the maritime environment. The position of fishing villages was also analysed with regards to the environmental and socio-economic factors to determine the extent of the influence of these on settlement patterns.
