More about the University of Exeter
The Conference,
any accommodation provided by the University and additional meetings and
workshops will all be held on our Streatham Campus in Exeter.
Exeter is an historic city in the picturesque South West of England.
The city was founded by the
Romans almost two thousand years ago making it
one of the oldest cities in England. To this day the central area of the
City remains staunchly encircled by massive Roman walls, constructed by
200AD. Another unique attraction in the Underground Passages which run
below the High Street. The mediaeval labyrinth of water conduits is
believed to date back to the 13th century.
The administrative centre for the County of Devon (Please
click here for information about Devon),
Exeter is also famous for its Cathedral, its medieval buildings and ancient
port. The awe-inspiring 850 year old Cathedral dominates the city’s
skyline. This boasts unique Norman twin towers, the world’s longest unbroken
run of gothic vaulting and England’s tallest Bishop’s throne which soars to
over twenty metres. The West Front’s Image Screen is richly adorned with
sculptures of kings, bishops and prophets and is considered to be one of the
finest in Europe. Exeter enjoys a maritime climate with generally fine and
mild weather in September. |
