The Mond Dome

The Mond Dome houses the Lockyer 6 inch refractor

Since the opening of the new James Lockyer Planetarium in October 1995, the Mond dome has returned to use as an operational dome housing the restored Lockyer 6 ¼ inch refractor.

The plan is to fit an imaging camera and computer to project the "view" in the planetarium. The project, which involves the latest technology, is good 'science education' for those involved and permits more people to observe astronomical events. Fortunately, the building has the necessary ducts to install the system.
