Eden...

and Escape

First a Group, and now a Section of the Society of Biblical Literature, our aim has always been to provide a forum for research in feminist hermeneutics, combining feminist readings of biblical texts with methodological inquiry and innovation.

Some of the earlier work of the group has been collected in Escaping Eden: New Feminist Perspectives on the Bible, and a second volume is in the planning stages.

In both our early and our current work, our focus remains on questions of method and practice which are helping to carve out a new space for explorations: visions, revisions, and - in Adrienne Rich's terms - re-visions, seeing the text with fresh eyes, responding critically and creatively to the Bible as a living text and tradition.
