My university education began with me studying computer science. During my undergraduate years I became increasingly interested in biology/medicine, and applications of computer science within those disciplines. After completing my undergraduate degree, my research interests guided me towards the bioinformatics masters course. This was ideal for me as it blended the areas I found most interesting within computer science, to those in biology and medicine. During my masters course I took on a project for the molecular genetics group at PMS, under the supervision of Dr Tim Frayling. On completion of the course I was employed as a research assistant for the polygenic lead (Tim Frayling) of the type 2 diabetes molecular genetics group, where I also study for a PhD. This job is ideal for me as it allows to persue my interests in both computer science and genetics - areas I hope to work in for as long as possible!
