Previous work:
Since 2000, I have worked in the Simón Bolívar University on three different projects. For three years I worked in the Marine Community Lab on two research projects: in 2000-2001 on the Morrocoy National Park Agenda, an integrated study of the Morrocoy National Park system with considerations of the development of plans for its management and sustainable use. I worked on two components of this project, processing seagrass (productivity and biomass) and benthic polychaete samples, and used this data to complete my bachelor’s thesis. Subsequently I worked for the Venezuelan Atlantic Front Project (2002), analysing the diversity of soft-bottom benthos on the off-shore Atlantic coast of Venezuela, an area that will be used in the future for gas extraction. I spent the last four years (2003-2007) working for the CARIACO project, an American-Venezuelan joint effort which explores the Cariaco Basin, a permanent anoxic basin in the northwest of the Venezuelan coast. The research group in which I was involved study the spatiotemporal dynamics of the upwelling system located in this region through the analysis of satellite images. Also, we developed a web system for the analysis and visualization of this data. Simultaneously, I used these remote sensing tools to complete my master thesis, oriented to coral reef ecology and natural disturbances. Positions PhD Student - University of Exeter. (October 2007 - present). Researcher - Instituto de Tecnologia y Ciencias Marinas, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Caracas, Venezuela. (February 2003 - August 2007). Technician - Marine Community Lab, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Caracas, Venezuela. (January 2000 - December 2002). Journal Articles |
