Peter has worked and lived in the Middle East, travelled widely in the region and has a longstanding interest in the Red Sea and the Farasan archipelago. He is a regular contributor to Saudi Aramco World Magazine, researching, writing and photographing features on subjects including Beduoin desert trackers, volcanic Arabia, Mada’in Salih, rock art in Saudi Arabia and the Polish quest for the Arab horse. He has also contributed to Current World Archaeology and international journals on the Arab horse. He is a study leader on US alumni study tours in the region and on the World Leaders Symposium (March 2009) touring the Gulf States. He is a director of two UK publishers and the commissioning editor of books relating to the Middle East including biographies of Gertrude Bell, Lady Anne Blunt and Howard Carter, a facsimile reissue of Six Months in the Hejaz – Journeys to Makkah and Medina 1877-78 by John Keane and a history of the Maria Theresa Thaler. He is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a member of the Saudi-British Society and the Society for Arabian Studies. As well as his writing and publishing activities, Peter is a keen diver, photographer and sailor. When not in the Middle East, he is based on the Isle of Wight.
