Innovation and Governance for Future Energy Systems, 8 March 2018, International Women’s Day

IGov will be holding a conference on Innovation and Governance for Future Energy Systems on 8 March 2018 – International Women’s Day – at the Coin Street Conference Centre. The meeting costs will be partially supported by the EPSRC Energy Programme.

The aim of the meeting is to have about 100 people discussing cutting-edge innovation and governance issues to do with Future Energy Systems. All speakers will be women, in different stages of their career across the energy spectrum – whether industry (conventional or grid-edge), academia, regulation, government (of whatever level) and communities and civil society.

IGov has written various blogs about women and energy (see here, here and here. A previous EPG project (Energy Security in a Multipolar World) also held a conference in 2012, again on International Women’s Day, again with women only speakers.  What we did not expect at that event, given that speakers and the programme were topical, relevant, and meritocratic, was that so few men would want to attend. We hope this time the March 2018 conference will be treated more like a conventional conference that just happens to have women speakers.

We intend the programme to explore the fabulously interesting energy world we live in, and the coming decisions that all of the energy world will have to deal with.
