Pubs
Most of
the pubs in our branch area are in small villages dotted throughout the countryside and these,
almost without exception, stock real ale, and much of this is good. Our towns also
boast some excellent real ale pubs but have a few which, despite strong local demand,
ignore our brewing heritage by not stocking any real ale.
To give some sort of rationale for Branch members to visit pubs, as if
the beer itself were not sufficient, we are also involved in the following activities:
- we survey pubs for the annual Good Beer Guide. This involves a continual assessment of the beer quality in
all pubs in the branch area. You too can help with this - see
the NBSS below
- we nominate and and vote on the branch Pub of the Year or POTY.
The picture opposite shows the Tom Cobley, Spreyton, which was judged
to be CAMRAs pub of the year for 2006
- we also promote the use of pubs during Community Pubs Week, held in February
National Beer Scoring System (NBSS)
The NBSS is a 0-5 point scale for judging beer quality in pubs. It is
an easy-to-use system that has been designed to assist us in recording
beer quality and hence helps us in selecting pubs for the Good Beer Guide.
CAMRA members all over the country can help us record the beer quality
in all pubs in the UK. Just go to the National Beer Scoring System
website, register, and then record your votes.
