brief introduction to the
Community Landscape Project
study on
Hartland Moors
The area of study is dominated by Carboniferous shale and chert rock of the Culm Facies. The area is climatically very wet and has an above average rainfall. The topography is typical of high plateau and most of the area of study was moor land.
North Devon saw the Community Landscapes project and volunteers mostly around the Hartland moor area. Here we carried out some earthwork surveys and palaeoenvironmental survey. The results of the palaeoenvironmental research is discussed in brief below. The results of the earthwork surveys can be found on the reports section of this web site. There is however also contained within these web pages historical records relating to; Harland, Clovelly and Woolfardisworthy. This is mainly the work of the volunteers who have transcribed the 1840s Tithe Map and Apportionment records.
