We are a cross-disciplinary research group trying to understand the biological complexities involved in the rise and diversification of eukaryotes, an evolutionary transition that changed the face of this planet and led to 'complex' life including animals and plants.

We use genomic, ecological, biochemical and cellular experimentation to shed light on how the eukaryote cell first evolved and diversified.

The University of Exeter has recently commissioned the refit of a new laboratory for our studies and in 2009 we will enter a new research centre with facilities to house 40 investigators, microscopy suites, parasite culture rooms, large scale environmental sample analyses and facilities for biochemical experimentation.
