"Chemotherapy for Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): Estimating the Costs of Extended Use of Chemotherapy for this Group of Patients"

Project Summary and Objectives:

The primary objective is to assemble a representative resource use data set covering a range of treatments normally provided to NSCLC patients in the UK, by recording all NHS activity involved in the treatment of patients who could be considered potentially eligible for chemotherapy.

Secondary objectives are:
a) to estimate the overall additional cost to a health authority if all eligible patients were to receive chemotherapy in addition to current therapy;
b) to describe the characteristics of the distribution of health care resource consumption for each significant element of care received by NSCLC patients;
c) to apply this distributional data to the design of data collection instruments for the economic evaluation of a major RCT of chemotherapy for treatment of NSCLC (the Big Lung Trial).
