Prof Mike Somekh
Mike Somekh is Professor of Optical Engineering and Head of Research in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In recent years his research has expanded into the development of novel optical sensor technologies and applications of novel microscopies in the biological sciences. This has involved several funded interdisciplinary collaborations including those with Prof Sambles and Prof O'Shea.
His group recently developed a novel optical surface acoustic wave microscope which, as well as improving signal to noise ratio can also adapt to material aberrations in real time. This work means that surface wave microscopy is becoming a practical technque for cellular and sub-cellular imaging
