Guest Speaker - Professor Simon Gaskell

Prof Simom GaskellProfessor Gaskell is currently Vice-President for Research at the University of Manchester.  He received his BSc in 1971 and his PhD in 1974 at the University of Bristol.  Following post-doctoral work at the University of Glasgow, he spent nine years at the University of Wales College of Medicine before becoming Professor of Experimental Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.  He moved to University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in 1993 as Professor of Mass spectrometry and Director of the Michael Barber Centre for Mass Spectrometry and is a former head of the UMIST Department of Chemistry.

Simon is a current member of the BBSRC Tools and Resources Strategy panel and has served on a number of Research Council committees.  He has published over 220 peer-reviewed papers, of which five are citation classics (papers receiving more than 100 citations).
