These instructions are produced to the page size required for the seminar proceedings, please observe the following guidelines for the format of the paper. The article should be submitted by email to S.E.Adam.ex.ac.uk by 15 February 2004, the file name being the 1st author.  This will be considered to be the definitive version of the article and the author should ensure that it is complete, grammatically correct and without spelling or typographical errors. Please follow the instructions printed on this example with regard to the placement of the title, authors’ names and affiliations as well as the main text. Papers should be no longer than 6 pages in length. The abstract (no longer than 250 words) should be typed in italic.

1. INTRODUCTION

All manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word for Windows. Use Arial with a 10 pt size. All text must be single-spaced.

2. FIRST PAGE OF MANUSCRIPT

 

The title of the paper should be centred on the top line of the first page as shown in this model paper. The title should be 14 pt boldface in upper and lower cases. Two line spaces separate the title from the author. The text related to the author should be centred. Author’s name should consist of authors initials and last name. It should be 10 pt upper and lower case letters. Author affiliation should consist of the name of the company or the institution using 10 pt size.  If there are multiple authors with different affiliations, please set them in accordance with the above example.

PROFESSIONAL TITLES AND QUALIFICATIONS SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED.

The remainder of the paper from the abstract should be placed in one column.  Use 3cm for all the margins throughout the paper.

 

3. MAIN TEXT

The text of your paper follows the abstract and should be fully justified.

3.1 Headings

 

As shown in this model paper, first order headings should be boldfaced, in upper case, and preceded by Arabic numerals - 1., 2., etc.  Second order headings should be boldfaced with only the first letter of each word capitalised. You are advised to number headings, using the decimal system, i.e. 1., 2., 1.1, 1.2 etc.

 

3.2 Paragraphs

 

Do not indent the paragraphs.  Leave one blank line between paragraphs.

 

3.3 Figures, Tables and Photographs

 

Figures and tables should be inserted in the word-file and arranged throughout the text, preferably being included on the same page as they are first discussed.  Leave two blank lines above and below figures or tables. Figures, tables and photographs should be numbered consecutively and captioned i.e Fig. 1  Figure showing……….

The caption consists of the number and a title, which briefly describes the figure, table and photograph. 

 

It is usual to number Tables and to position headings above Tables.

 

3.4 Mathematics

 

Equations (formulae) should be centred and set apart from the text.  Use two blank spaces to separate equations from the text.  If they are numbered, use Arabic numerals enclosed in parentheses flush right-along the final baseline of the equation. Do not include dots from the equation to the equation number.

 

3.5 References

 

All references should appear together at the end of the paper as shown in the example below [1]. References are numbered in order in which they are quoted in the text [2].
